Checking your Java Version in Linux

The ThomsonNOW Java requirement for Linux users is Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4.1_02–1.5/5.0. If you are not sure of your computer's version of Java, here's how to check it in Linux.

To check your Java Version in Linux
  1. Open a terminal.
  2. Type locate jre1 | less -or- locate j2re | less to see the locations of the Java installed on the machine.
  3. The version will be in the name of the file. For example, in a folder name like /usr/java/jre1.x.x, the Java version will be the 1.x.x. If nothing is found using jre1, try j2re.
